Under the Pensions Act 1995, trustees of pension schemes were required to have a two-stage internal dispute resolution process in place to deal with disputes with beneficiaries (or potential beneficiaries). The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has now issued regulations which permit trustees to simplify this process to a single stage. At the same time the Pensions Regulator (TPR) has issued guidance on a reasonable time period for dealing with such disputes.
