Punter Southall: PPF draft scaling factor for 2010/11 levy

Those with Defined Benefit schemes will be aware that their levy to the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) will be influenced by the scaling factor which is set by the PPF each year. The PPF has announced that the draft scaling factor for the 2010/11 levy is 1.64. The final scaling factor will be confirmed by the end of November 2009 and the PPF have stated that the final scaling factor is unlikely to change significantly.

• Whilst the lower draft scaling factor may seem like good news, the impact on your individual levy depends on many factors.
• Although the deadlines have passed to take action to reduce your 2009/10 PPF levy, Scheme sponsors and trustees should understand the likely level of future levies and take action now to reduce these levies.
